Fall Foliage Bordering Mountain Road

The Dazzling Colors of Gatlinburg in October

October 02, 2017

From the bright red hues of sassafras, dogwoods, and maples, to the varied shades of yellow, orange and gold of ferns, forget-me-nots, and tulip poplars, the hills are alive with variegations of rich autumnal color. Fall foliage lovers will especially enjoy the scenery of Newfound Gap Road, and the drive leading to Clingmans Dome, which is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi. If you’d like to scope out the brightest colors before you go, check out the park’s webcams here.
